Dutch stars reign supreme at CEV indoor Satellite in Aalsmeer CEV Beach Volleyball Challenger and Satellites
Aalsmeer, Netherlands, January 15, 2012. Home stars Reinder Nummerdor and Richard Schuil claimed this afternoon the second edition of the CEV indoor Satellite held at “The Beach” in Aalsmeer after edging Poland’s Michal Kadziola and Jakub Szalankiewicz in the final match (21-13, 21-17).
It did not take that long for triple European champions Nummerdor and Schuil to assert their supremacy and even though their young opponents from Poland were playing with great energy, still they could not find a way to avoid the block of Schuil, who killed 8 in the opening set for a massive 21-13 that was quickly stamped on the scoreboard. The guys from Poland trailed 1:6 in set 2 and Nummerdor/Schuil maintained control of the operations until the score stood at 14:7; after that, having nothing more to lose, Kadziola and Szalankiewicz scored three in a row thereby going for a possible comeback, but the home heroes did not agree with this scenario and eventually pocketed the title with a speedy 2:0 (21-17). This is the second consecutive joy for Richard Schuil in Aalsmeer after last year he topped the charts together with Jon Stiekema while his regular partner Nummerdor was nursing an injury.
The consolation final turned into a great show where Swiss veterans Patrick Heuscher and Jefferson Bellaguarda eventually got the upper hand against Dutch rising stars Alexander Brouwer and Robert Meeuwsen. Heuscher/Bellaguarda, the second seeded pair of the tournament, had lost in the semis to Kadziola/Szalankiewicz at the end of an epic battle (26-28, 22-20, 13-15) while Brouwer/Meeuwsen had been close to cause a sensation by defeating their glorious countrymen before losing at the tie-break (17-21, 21-17, 9-15). The home guys punished their Swiss opponents in the opening set (21-18) but Heuscher and Bellaguarda got back their best play in set 2 to call for the tie-break (21-16) where Heuscher really made the difference by moving the score from 10 all to 13:10 with his floating serve and killing blocks. By this moment the final result was no longer to be questioned and the Swiss duo sealed it at 15-13 to take the bronze medal.
The VISADE Women’s Invitational – an exhibition tournament combined with the Satellite – was also completed with Madelein Meppelink and Sophie van Gestel downing in straight sets their compatriots Merel Mooren and Jantine van der Vlist (21-17, 21-17) while Dutch stars Sanne Keizer and Marleen van Iersel – winners of two stops from last year’s FIVB World Tour – got redemption for their defeat from Saturday by edging Belgium’s Liesbeth Mouha and Katrin Gielen in three sets (16-21, 21-12, 15-12).

Swiss top team Heuscher/Bellaguarda easily makes it to semis in Aalsmeer
CEV Beach Volleyball Challenger and Satellites
Aalsmeer, Netherlands, January 14, 2012. After another very intensive day of action the draw for the semis of the CEV indoor Satellite running at “The Beach” in Aalsmeer is fixed. On Sunday there will be a Dutch derby with home stars Reinder Nummerdor/Richard Schuil playing youngsters Alexander Brouwer/Robert Meeuwsen while the second-seeded pair of the tournament, Heuscher/Bellaguarda of Switzerland, will test the likes of Michal Kadziola and Jakub Szalankiewicz of Poland.
Nummerdor/Schuil reasserted their supremacy in the Netherlands although they were provided with some real resistance by their compatriots Emiel Boersma and Daan Spijkers in the third round (21-18,
21-18).
Boersma/Spijkers restarted their campaign from the losers’ bracket taking on the former youth world champions Kadziola/Szalankiewicz. The guests from Poland showed off their quality in the first set leaving no chance to the “Oranjes” (21-13) before Boersma/Spijkers drew level with a classy performance in set 2 (21-15). The tie-break was called and there the Poles played a little better sealing the final 15-12.
Heuscher/Bellaguarda have also played a perfect tournament so far, as on Saturday they easily downed Kadziola/Szalankiewicz and afterwards another duo from Poland, Kantor/Kosiak, also in straight sets (21-17, 21-13). The Swiss stars will have a remake of their game with Kadziola and Szalankiewicz in the semifinals.
Dutch rising stars Brouwer and Meeuwsen got to the semis after going through some kind of a German campaign as they played German duos in the losers’ bracket starting with a straight sets victory over Kaczmarek/Walkenhorst (21-17, 21-19) who got annoyed by some decisions of the local linesmen. Brouwer/Meeuwsen then outclassed an elite team from Germany, David Klemperer and Eric Koreng, also in straight sets (21-14, 21-18) and their last obstacle for a spot among the top 4 of the tournament were Poland’s Kantor/Kosiak, another young up-and-coming team. It was a tough match that the Dutch guys eventually brought home after two close sets (22-20, 21-17) thereby showing once again their incredible potential.
Apart from the men’s competition, the audience enjoyed also the first matches of the Visade Women’s Invitational with Dutch stars Sanne Keizer/Marleen van Iersel edging their compatriots Madelein Meppelink and Sophie van Gestel (21-17, 21-15) while Belgium’s Liesbeth Mouha and Katrien Gielen got past another Dutch team, Merel Mooren/Jantine van der Vlist (21-18, 21-8).
The tournament comes to a close on Sunday with the semis starting at 11 am and the finals slated for 3 pm.

Home stars Nummerdor/Schuil to play Dutch derby to advance to semis
CEV Beach Volleyball Challenger and Satellites
Aalsmeer, Netherlands, January 13, 2012. Friday was a busy day at the CEV indoor Satellite in Aalsmeer as the Main Draw
got started and the first match was played at 8 am – with Dumek and Tichy from the Czech Republic challenging Turkey’s Sekerci and Gögtepe – while local stars and triple European champions Reinder Nummerdor and Richard Schuil concluded the daily program well after 10 pm.
A first sensation was caused by the defeat suffered by Germany’s Klemperer/Koreng – the third seed of the tournament – to Poland’s Kantor and Kosiak. The Germans eventually came back via the losers’ bracket where they edged Tichy and Dumek in two close sets (23-21, 21-19).
The home heroes Sven Vismans and Marco Daalmeijer – who basically started playing Beach Volleyball at “The Beach” as their parents are the founders of that sports centre – were the first Dutch duo to join the competition. They actually had a very demanding task as their opponents were Switzerland’s Patrick Heuscher and Jefferson Bellaguarda, the fifth best duo from the FIVB World Ranking. The local guys started well but their opponents changed gear in the second section of the opening set (18-21). Vismans and Daalmeijer delivered a great comeback in set 2 where they played with great energy (21-16) but eventually missed the big points of the tie-break with their Swiss opponents claiming the final 13-15.
Vismans and Daalmeijer re-started their campaign from the losers’ bracket and there they suffered another defeat, this time to Germany’s Kaczmarek/Walkenhorst (22-24, 22-24) and at the end they were rewarded by the Dutch audience with a standing ovation.
Dutch rising stars Alexander Brouwer and Robert Meeuwsen were in action for the third day after playing the country quotas and the qualification; they started by easily downing Austria’s Hupfer and Moser in straight sets (21-14, 21-12) before taking on their compatriots Emiel Boersma and Daan Spijkers who were coming out of a difficult game with the Swiss brothers Andy and Roman Sutter (19-21, 21-18, 17-15).
These two duos are currently fighting to be acknowledged as second best Dutch duo out there behind Nummerdor/Schuil but this time Boersma/Spijkers easily disposed of their young opponents by claiming the match in straight sets (21-16, 21-18).
The real headliners of the Satellite, Reinder Nummerdor and Richard Schuil, enjoyed a perfect start in Aalsmeer. Even without playing their best they opened by beating Kunert/Petutschnig of Austria (22-20, 21-17) and Horrem/Eithun from Norway (21-15, 21-13). On Saturday they will play Boersma/Spijkers and so at least one Dutch team will surely advance to the semis.

Brouwer and Meeuwsen advance to Main Draw in Aalsmeer
CEV Beach Volleyball Challenger and Satellites
Aalsmeer, Netherlands, January 12, 2012. The second edition of the CEV indoor Satellite in Aalsmeer continued today with the qualification as a total of 21 teams were competing for 8 spots available to complete the Main Draw there at “The Beach”. Local heroes Alexander Brouwer and Robert Meeuwsen did not disappoint their many fans by edging Estonia’s duo Maksim Petrov and Aleksei Povjakel (21-14, 21-12). Their opponents were coming out of a tough game whereby they had defeated Poland’s Pawel Pelka and Sebastian Kaczmarek in the previous round (22-20, 18-21, 17-15).
The real sensation of the day was provided by Italy’s Gianluca Oligeri and Roberto Papagna – who are 38 and 49 years old respectively – who got past Turkey’s Tayga Baltacioglu and Emir Kavuzlu (21-16, 19-21, 15-12). However, they lost their next game to Poland’s Michal Kadziola and Jakub Szalankiewicz (17-21, 19-21). “I only play for fun and haven’t trained for a while, so this is a great result” says Papagna.
Other teams who have advanced to the Main Draw are Babich/Ioisher (UKR), Hupfer/Moser (AUT), Dumek/Tichy (CZE), Sutter/Sutter (SUI), Kantor/Kosiak (POL) and Kunert/Petutschnig (AUT), who surprisingly defeated Spain’s Raul Mesa/Inocencio Lario (21-18, 19-21, 15-13).
The organizers are very happy with the draw for tomorrow as no Dutch derby is foreseen in the Main Draw. The matches start at 10 am and “Holland” will be represented by four duos, namely Schuil/Nummerdor, Brouwer/Meeuwsen, Vismans/Daalmeijer and Boersma/Spijkers.

Dutch rising stars dominate country quotas to open CEV indoor Satellite
CEV Beach Volleyball Challenger and Satellites

Aalsmeer, Netherlands, January 11, 2012. The second edition of the CEV indoor Satellite tournament hosted by “The Beach” in Aalsmeer started today with the country quotas. The starting field is once again filled up with well-known Beach Volleyball stars and hence the teams from Germany and the Netherlands had to play some extra matches to determine the duos advancing to the qualification.
Jon Stiekema – who last year had claimed the final win pairing Richard Schuil – was not joined by his regular partner Christiaan Varenhorst – who is currently injured – and lacking routine with his partner Timko Lokerse he could not do much to stop the run of Tim Oude Elferink and Jeroen van Zwieten who stamped a 2:1 win (14-21, 21-17, 15-11).
Young rising stars Alexander Brouwer and Robert Meeuwsen were the absolute favorites of the Dutch country quotas especially after their breakthrough last summer that included also a fifth place at the European Championship Final in Kristiansand. They immediately showed their class by downing Jeroen Vismans and Kees Spil in straight sets (21-13, 21-12). They did not have many problems also while playing Oude Elferink and Van Zwieten going for another 2:0 (21-12, 21-16) with Meeuwsen standing out with his great blocks.
As for Germany, the country quota was won by Sebastian Dollinger/Nils Rohde who edged Armin Dollinger/Malte Stiel in straight sets (22-20, 21-10).
The qualification – where Brouwer and Meeuwsen are the first seeded duo – starts on Thursday at 9 am; after the elimination of Jeroen Vismans/Kees Spil the home team “The Beach” will be represented only by Sven Vismans/Marco Daalmeijer who have received a wild card for the Main Draw.

Even in the snow across boarders people are promoting the CEV Satellite Aalsmeer.
_____________________________________________________________________________________________

Aalsmeer, Netherlands, December 30, 2011. Only a couple of weeks are left before the start of the CEV indoor Satellite tournament that will take place for the second consecutive year in the city of Aalsmeer. With the event set to run through January 11-15, some of Europe’s best male duos will be joined there by female pairs that will be competing in what the local organizers have christened as “Visade Women’s Invitational”.
Even though the Satellite is addressed only to men’s teams, the organizers have added up to the program also this competition whereby some top duos will be able to test their preparations for the Olympic year. The prelims will take place on Tuesday and Friday, January 12-13, while the finals are set for the weekend.
Three duos have been directly advanced to the final stage of the competition, namely local heroines Sanne Keizer/Marleen van Iersel and Merel Mooren/Jantine van der Vlist, plus Belgium’s Liesbeth Mouha and Katrin Gielen. Three more Dutch duos will join a round robin to determine the last team qualifying for the semis.
Keizer/van Iersel are certainly the headliners of the event after a splendid 2011 season that included two wins in the SWATCH FIVB World Tour. After such international breakthrough, these two players have set the London Olympics as their highest priority for the 2012 season. Keizer and van Iersel were recently in Aalsmeer and at the venue of the CEV Satellite, to attend a clinic with Samsung Mobile (see picture).
Mooren/van der Vlist represent the local “Beach Team Aalsmeer” and are still targeting a spot to join the starting field of the Olympic Games in London.
After ending her partnership with Liesbet van Breedam, Belgium’s Liesbeth Mouha teamed up in 2011 with Katrin Gielen and the two eventually finished their first campaign together with good results, including a series of fifth places (European Championship Final in Kristiansand, FIVB Grand Slam in Moscow and Phuket Open in Thailand).
After this first test with the “Visade Invitational”, the organizers in Aalsmeer hope to get the right to organize an official Satellite event also for the ladies in the near future.

The Beach brings world class players to Aalsmeer
For the second time sport & events center The Beach in Aalsmeer will organize an indoor CEV Satellite. This will take place the 11th till the 15th of January. The CEV Satellite is the first and only international indoor beach volleyball tournament in Holland. After the success of the first edition, the organization again successfully invited the top couples to Aalsmeer including past European championship runners up, 3rd and 4th place.
A total of 46 teams have registered from all over Europe. This is a very high number of teams for a CEV tournament. For comparison, last year a number of 26 teams had registered for the first tournament in Aalsmeer. Nearly the double has signed up for this year. Among the entries there are 4 couples who belong in the top 15 of the world based on last season rankings.
The Dutch couple Reinder Nummerdor and Richard Schuil are among the participants of course. After a difficult opening of the season, this top couple have proven to still belong at the top of world by reaching the final in Holland and winning a tournament in Morocco (only European team in 2011) in the last two World Tour tournaments in 2011. They have also reached the 3rd place during the European championships.
The most important challengers on paper are from Switzerland and Germany. Patrick Heuscher and Jefferson Bellaguarda (SUI) currently on the 5th place on the world ranking have performed excellently in 2011. Among their prizes in the first year as a couple they have won a silver and bronze medal during a Grand Slam tournament. Heuscher and Bellaguarda lost in the match for 3rd place during the European championship against Nummerdor and Schuil.
The Germans are well represented during the CEV Satellite. A total of 6 teams have entered the tournament including Vice European Champions Jonathan Ermann and Kay Matysik. This couple were runners up during the European Championship and perform constantly all year long.
Besides that they are not unfamiliar in Aalsmeer. Last year they lost in the Satellite finals from Richard Schuil and Jon Stiekema.
David Klemperer and Eric Koreng are also present. They achieved numerous top 10 rankings during the World Tour and a 5th place at the European Championship. Thanks to these achievements they rank 15th in the current world ranking.
Coming from Turkey is the couple who became 3rd during last years CEV, Selçuk Sekerci and Volkan Gögtepe.
Holland is besides Schuil and Nummerdor well represented with other couples. Emiel Boersma and Daan Spijkers knew an unstable season in 2011 with a nice finish by achieving a 5th place at the World Tour in Holland.
Jon Stiekema, Last years winner, will try and defend his title with an other partner. He will be playing with Christiaan Varenhorst.
The surprisingly well performing Robbert Meeuwsen and Alexander Brouwer will be present as well. They have had their definite breakthrough last year during the European championship with a 5th place.
Finally there are some teams who will be playing a home game. Beach Team Aalsmeer, the first professional beach volleyball team in Holland, will be represented by Sven Vismans and Marco Daalmeijer, Frank van den Outenaar/Dirk Boehlé and Jeroen Vismans/Kees Spil.
Sven Vismans reached the 9th place in Aalsmeer last year with his former partner Stan van Laanen who is now injured. Marco Daalmeijer played last years Satellite with Richard de Kogel who is now the trainer/coach of Beach Team Aalsmeer and reached the 9th place.
The teams above can count on support of the audience as they will try to cheer them to victory.
You can find the full entry list on www.cev.lu. The Tournament starts on Wednesday 11th of January with the country quota. Thursday January 12 are the qualification matches and on Friday January 13 the main tournament will begin.

11 – 15 januari 2012: Aalsmeer proudly welcomes second indoor Satellite in January 2012
Aalsmeer, Netherlands, October 14, 2011. After the very successful premiere celebrated this past winter, a second indoor Satellite tournament will be hosted by “The Beach – Indoor Sports and Event Center” in Aalsmeer and run there through next January 11-15, 2012. This is to follow up the great experience enjoyed some 10 months ago as CEV and FIVB ranking points were – for the first time in history – distributed by an indoor tournament.
Dutch stars and triple European champions Reinder Nummerdor and Richard Schuil – winners of the Morocco Open in Agadir this past weekend – have already confirmed their intention to compete in Aalsmeer by including this Satellite in their intense preparations for the 2012 London Olympics.
They will be joined by all other Dutch teams that have been touring internationally in the past couple of years.
“The CEV Satellite in Aalsmeer is an excellent opportunity for international players to play top matches along their road to the London Olympics” says Tournament Director Irene van Uden. “As we staged a World Tour event this past August in The Hague, we were asked by quite many players who had joined the inaugural edition if we intended to organize this event again and we are very proud to announce that we have finalized our project”.
The CEV Satellite will start on Wednesday, January 11, with the Country Quotas followed by the qualification on Thursday and the Main Draw on Friday. The semifinals and finals are scheduled for Sunday, January 15, 2012.
The tournament is a joint effort of “The Beach Sport Service”, a local promoter, the Dutch Volleyball Federation (NeVoBo) and the company managing that splendid facility, “The Beach”, in Aalsmeer.
Apart from the men’s tournament, some more matches involving top female duos will be organized throughout the week.
Additional information is available at www.beach.nl or via the iPhone/iPad application downloadable there
The CEV Indoor Satellite Aalsmeer will be played from Januaryt 11 through January 15 2012 in The Beach – Indoor Sport & Event Center, Oosteinderweg 247-a 1432 AT Aalsmeer.
